Microsoft just released a new build of Excel that contains a new VB Editor, which we use to write VBA macros in Excel. The new VB Editor contains a lot of the features we are used to seeing in the Windows versions of Excel, or Excel 2011 for Mac. I then wrote essentially the same code in VBA using Excel on a Windows machine, and this code ran in about 1 hour. The Mac that I ran the AppleScript on is a 867 Mhz PowerBook with 1.125 Gb of RAM running Excel 2008 under OS X 10.5.6, and the Windows machine I used is a 350 Mhz machine with 384 Mb of RAM running Excel 2002.
You've come to the right place at a particularly important moment. As of next week the object model of Office for Mac is being updated from version 14 all the way up to 16.8 in one fell swoop!
Yes, expect problems. Yes, expect that if you report the problems you encounter you might find work-arounds and/or Microsoft receptive to fixing bugs. If you want to start immediately, go to the Excel Help menu and choose Check for Updates, which launches AutoUpdate app.
In AutoUpdate, click the box to join the Insider program, and leave the setting at Insider Slow. This will give you this week's upcoming general release build today, a few days early. When you run into a glitch, start a new message for that particular issue here in the forum and others can try to reproduce it (so you don't report something that isn't really an issue).
